Mindfulness for Children: Introduction to Mindfulness
What's included
1 live meeting
40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Welcome to mindfulness class! Research has shown that practicing mindfulness on a daily basis can have numerous benefits for adults, adolescents, and young children. In children, mindfulness can increase their ability to regulate their emotions as well as improve their focus and attention, body regulation, fear modulation, executive functioning skills, and self awareness. In addition, it can help to bring about an inner sense of peace and calm. (Pretty awesome stuff!) This class will begin by introducing students to the concept of mindfulness. We will go over the definition of mindfulness and discuss some of the many benefits. Next, we will practice three mindfulness and meditation techniques that they can use daily: mindful listening (using the sounds around them as an anchor for their "mindful minute" practice), mindful breathing (using their breath as an anchor), and mindful observation. As well, upon enrollment in this class, students will receive a mindfulness tracking page that they can use to monitor and encourage their daily progress. I am looking forward to sharing and learning with you!
Learning Goals
By the end of this class, students will be able to define mindfulness in their own words. Students will be able to demonstrate three ways that they can practice mindfulness. Students will also leave class understanding the importance of making mindfulness part of their daily routine.

Teacher expertise and credentials
After years of teaching mindfulness to students in grade K-12 in the public education setting, I have decided to bring this content online. In my teaching practice as well as in my experience as a parent, I have seen the transformational results of children learning and practicing mindfulness. My own daughter (age 8) regularly uses the skills taught in this course to calm herself down in times of stress, relax before bedtime, and to settle her body and mind when she is struggling to concentrate.
