Class Experience

In this pre-recorded, self-pace class, students will learn a variety of mindfulness coping tools to help manage strong emotions like anger, sadness, anxiety, worries, grief, and other emotions. There will be 10 different topics/lessons (see syllabus for themes) with different coping tools to go with each topic. Each week will have a video teaching about the topic, a discussion, an activity, a weekly challenge, and a handout of what we learned that week. The class will last for 10 weeks, but students can go as fast or slow as they need. The teacher will answer every comment the student gives on the classroom page and through the Outschool messaging system. The teacher will be as prompt as possible in answering students. There will be slides and videos in this class to include visual based learning techniques to help the kids remember what we are learning. I encourage students to practice outside of the class and teach their families what they learned. The classes do not add onto each other, but each topic is helpful for mental and emotional health. Students do not need any prior knowledge to take this class. Students can take this class as many times as they would like. This class is the self-pace version of my live mindfulness class.

Learning Goals

Students will learn different coping tools based on 10 different themes (emotions and the brain, mindfulness, self-esteem, gratitude, listening to our bodies, breathing, kindness, the 5 senses, self-care, and coping tools) to manage their emotions.

Parental Guidance
There is one short video in lesson 10 that shows a cartoon of a person and their habits, and it shows a martini glass and a cigarette. They are shown for 1 second in the video. The video is showing someone's habits to show how we can change our brain patterns. The martini glass and cigarette are not the focus of the class or the video, they are just in the background of the one picture.
