Understanding stress helps one prepare for the ups and downs of day-to-day life. In this course, students will learn about what stress is, the pros and cons of stress (i.e. eustress versus distress), and different techniques to manage day-to-day stress. The class will be very interactive. Students will engage with the material by watching informative video clips, analyzing stressful case scenarios, and compiling a stress toolkit. Students will be able to define stress. Students will be able to differentiate between good stress (eustress) versus bad stress (distress). Students will be able to list various techniques that can assist with stress.
Ms. Rebecca is a school social worker. She has her Masters in Social Work and is a key member of her school's Mental Health Team. She has provided ongoing counseling to students of all ages. Stress management is a key part of her support provided to her students in school. She has been trained in Save the Children's Journey of Hope socioemotional curriculum, which included her conducting several parent workshops and youth training. She is more than comfortable teaching youth about stress, emotions, and how to understand themselves better.
No homework will be assigned.
A list of stress management techniques discussed will be handed out in class.
Informal knowledge checks throughout the course will be conducted to ensure consistent student attainment of information.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
