While studying clinical psychology, I fell in love with a class on mindfulness and how to become more aware of our emotions and thoughts. I got a mindfulness teacher certification that taught me much more about this beautiful practice. I started teaching mindfulness to children (ages 4-10) and I immediately saw its benefits. They increased their emotional intelligence, attention, and focus while decreasing stress or negative emotions. As an online teacher, I have taught over 2,500 students range from ages 4 to 12. Many of my students have difficulty focusing, are very high energy, or are anxious and would greatly benefit in learning mindfulness and when to be mindful. I am excited to apply my training, knowledge, and skills to help children become more aware of their emotions, bodies and thoughts.
There will not be a formal homework for this class. However, students will be encouraged to practice mindful eating, breathing and movement at home.
- A piece of their favorite fruit, vegetable, or snack for practicing mindful eating - 2 printable handouts with different breathing techniques that they will be learning. (I will send these 24-48 hours in advance of the class so you can print them before class.) If you are not able to print these handouts, learners are welcome to draw their own mindful breathing techniques - Markers, crayons, or colored pencils - 1 stuffed animal
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
