Class Experience

The Mind Matters Ongoing Class will be help you learn to strategies for adjusting to high school stress, managing stress responses, mindfulness, navigating relationships, preparing for the future, test anxiety, setting healthy boundaries, procrastination, time management and perfectionism, uncertainty about the future, bullying. 

The transition from middle school to high school can be stressful for some. Academic expectations increase, and socializing and extracurricular activities become more important. Some of these expectations can create unique obstacles. This class will include practical research backed strategies that will be suitable for teens. 

Here’s a closer look at some of the challenges high-schoolers face:

Test Anxiety 
Finding Balance with with other responsibilities

The goal of this class is to teach each learner research backed information that can be applied in their everyday life. Each class will consist of techniques and strategies. This is a research backed course, and not a counseling or therapy group. 


Topics that will be discussed. 
Week 1:  Adjusting to High School, Finding a Routine  
Week 2: Stress Reduction Strategies
Week 3:  Assertive Skills for Effective Communication ( Communication strategies ) 
Week 4:  Creating Healthy Relationships ( Strategies for building healthy relationships) 
Week 5:  Intro to Mindfulness ( Mindfulness techniques, stretching, body scan, breathing techniques) 
Week 6:  Understanding the power of your breath ( Breathing techniques: 4-7-8, Box Breathing) 
Week 7:  Manage your Time, Manage your Stress ( Time management strategies) 
Week 8:   Creating a life of balance ( Techniques for finding a balance in school and personal life) 
Week 9:   Managing Test Anxiety ( Test anxiety strategies) 
Week 10:  Social Media Comparison ( Strategies for using social media in a healthy way) 
Week 11:   Staying Healthy as a High School Student ( Healthy habits strategies) 
Week 12:  Setting Healthy Boundaries ( Strategies for creating healthy boundaries in high school) 
Week 13:  Navigating Disappointment ( Emotion regulation strategies) 
Week 14:  Anti-Bullying Strategies for Students
Week 15:   School Stress Management  ( 10 Stress management techniques for students)
Week 16:   Managing Perfectionism ( Strategies for managing perfectionism) 
Week 17:   Mindful Journaling ( Journaling techniques for mindful moments) 
Week 18:   Strategies for overcoming perfectionism 
Week 19:   Practicing Gratitude ( Looking into 3 different types of gratitude) 
Week 20:  Create a Student Success Plan ( Strategies for planning for the future/ determining future goals) 
After week 20, lessons will repeat. Lessons do not build upon each other. Learners may join at anytime. 
 
Class will not meet until 3 learners are enrolled**

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This class will not offer any medical or mental health services. It will be for educational purposes only. This will be a class that will include general information about nutrition, brain health, and relevant strategies.

My educational background is in Mental Health Counseling (M.S). As a therapist and behavioral health coach, I have 8 years of experience working with teens and youth as it pertains to mental health strategies and tools. Additionally, I have completed child development and brain development research and worked as a certified educator. I am immensely passionate about teaching youth about mental health and have completed years doing so as a therapist and educator. Due to my background and expertise I will be able to teach this topic from a developmentally appropriate point of view.
