This class will provide students with an introduction to strategic concepts, principles of war and tactics. In this overview of general military concepts - the students will glean excerpts from the major strategists: Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, Clausewitz, Liddell Hart and review brief case studies of these concepts in practice. Students will also review the Principles of War to better understand the classic tactics which have guided commanders from Thutmose III to General Patton. Military Strategies and Tactics 101 is meant to provide a basic understanding of major tactical and strategic concepts for later studies in Military History.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the concepts behind the Principles of War.
Students will understand major strategic concepts
Students will understand the "Seven Classical Maneuvers of War"
Students will apply these concepts and principles in discussion/commentary during the class.

Parental Guidance
This is a class about strategy and tactics in warfare - there is no intent of discussing any of the horrors of war.
Supply List
A class handout is provided "Principles of War" either to be read prior to class or for reference after class.
