Class Experience

We will focus on building solid sentences and applying those strong sentences to form an organized paragraph. Students will be critiqued when they turn in their weekly assignments, and in the critique, I will give suggestions on one or two points I would like them to focus on.

First 8 Weeks - Sentence Structure & Paragraph Writing
1.	Go over sentence structure & figurative language
2.	Using Imagery in Writing, Viewpoint, & Descriptive Writing
3.	The Mechanics of Dialogue and Between Two People & The Writing Process
4.	Formal Paragraph Writing
5.	Expository Paragraph
6.	Descriptive Paragraph
7.	Persuasive Paragraph
8.	Compare and Contrast Paragraph

We will go over the outlined subject matter during class and run through examples given by the students and myself. These examples will help them complete the weekly writing assignments that are provided in my Google Classroom. Students will also have a chance to converse and ask questions in the classroom during the week. This allows a more holistic approach to how the class is run. Allowing students to help one another and also receive help from me as well.

I would recommend that students are given an hour to complete the weekly assignments.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm a nut for English, reading, and writing, so much so that I teach all three and love every second of it! I teach middle and high school literature and creative writing and have led several book clubs.

I have taught in the private sector in K-12 since 2004 and have loved every moment of it. I have also volunteered to tutor K-12 and higher education in English, writing, and reading since 2010. I hold an Associate of Arts in English, a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English, and a Master in English and Creative Writing.

Students are individuals, and everyone learns uniquely. Every student's learning path is unique, and I utilize multiple teaching methods (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, and linguistic) to reach every student and allow them to soar. Every student contributes as a student, teacher, and thinker in my class. I learn from students as much as they learn from me. Students can explore and learn from what we read and write about in class by emphasizing a wholesome and safe environment.

As a book nerd, I have a secret: I love to smell books. Flip them in your face and breathe in a kind of smell. I'm also a mother of four awesome kids; well, my twenty-four-year-old would correct me because he's an adult. I'm a homeschool graduate, class of 1998, and have written and published several poems and short stories in various literary magazines throughout the many years of writing. I was first published at 14 in a children's literary magazine, which hooked me for life.
