Class experience

Students in this month-long online acting class for ages 11-14 will learn the basics of acting, including emotion, body language, voice, and facial expressions, as well as various acting techniques and methods such as Stanislavski, Meisner, and Method acting. They will also learn how to analyze a script, identify character objectives, obstacles, and tactics, and practice monologues and scenes from contemporary plays and films. They will learn audition techniques, including cold reading, prepared readings, and improvisations, and will prepare and record a mock audition tape. Finally, they will learn performance skills by rehearsing and performing scenes and monologues for a final showcase and providing feedback and constructive criticism to their peers. Throughout the course, they will have access to various resources and materials, including videos of performances and interviews with professionals in the industry, and will have opportunities for group discussions and Q&A sessions with the instructor.
Homework Offered
reinforce and expand upon the concepts and techniques covered in class. Some examples of homework assignments could include: Script Analysis: Analyzing a scene or monologue from a play or film and identifying the character objectives, obstacles, and tactics. Memorization and Rehearsal: Memorizing a scene or monologue and rehearsing it, focusing on developing the character and delivering the lines with appropriate emotion, body language, voice, and facial expressions. Research: Conducting research on a famous actor, director, or playwright and writing a short essay about their work and contributions to the industry. Reflection: Writing a reflection on a specific technique or exercise covered in class and how it has helped them in their acting. Audition Preparation: Preparing for a mock audition by choosing and preparing a monologue, practicing cold readings, and recording a mock audition tape. These homework assignments will be designed to be manageable and relevant to the students' age and skill level, and will be an important part of their learning process outside of class.
