Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be given optional homework to practice the weekly skill. This will include vocabulary, writing, and speaking practice, focusing on the weekly vocabulary words and concepts. Students will be able to turn in their homework to be graded by their instructor.
Assessment
Students will be assessed on a final spoken/written project.

Class Experience

This 8-week course will immerse your middle school learner into the Spanish language! Taught by a certified Dual-Language teacher and Spanish speaker, students will learn to describe and share information about themselves accurately using the target language of Spanish.
This class will be discussion based to allow for real-life immersion and application into the Spanish language. 

Part 1 Unit 1: Introduction to Conversation and the Spanish Language
Week 1: Greetings and Introductions
Grammar: Subject Pronouns/Tú vs. Ud.
Culture: Introduction to Mexico
Speaking: Greetings and Introductions

Week 2: Schools/Culture
Grammar: Nouns (singular and plural, gender, agreement)
Culture: Schools in Mexico

Week 3: Alphabet
Grammar: Definite Articles/ Indefinite Articles
Culture: Schools in Mexico
Speaking: Alphabet

Week 4: Numbers
Grammar: Nouns (singular and plural, gender, agreement)
Speaking: Counting
Culture: The Mexican Flag

Week 5: Colors
Grammar: Adjectives
Culture: Mexican Artists
Speaking: Describing with color

Week 6: Weather
Grammar: Adjectives
Culture: Food
Speaking: Describing Food and Weather

Week 7: Short Conversational Phrases
Grammar Review
Speaking: Short Conversational Phrases

Week 8: Final Project
Grammar Review
Culture Project
Speaking Presentation

Students will meet twice per week. Lesson 1 will introduce the weekly concept and review last week's concepts. Lesson 2 of the week will focus on applying the new Spanish vocabulary words to written and spoken language. 

After lesson 1 each week, students will be given optional homework to practice the weekly skill. This will include vocabulary, writing, and speaking practice, focusing on the weekly vocabulary words and concepts. Students will be able to turn in their homework to be graded by their instructor.

This is a beginner Spanish course. Little to no prior knowledge or experience speaking Spanish will be needed.
