Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
In our first unit, we will learn:
factors that led to the first civilizations
how something is classified as a civilization
societal forces and events which have impacted how we understand early human history
I have been studying ancient history for over ten years. I attended a well-recognized teaching college studying K-6 education which included multiple courses on teaching history and social studies for diverse learners. I have also completed master's level coursework on decolonizing history in informal education settings. I have been teaching social studies online for over two years to a group of global learners.
Each week learners will have two homework assignments. These will be in the form of nearpods. They will include reading, writing activities, short video clips, and artwork.
Learners will need a notebook, pencil, highlighters, ruler, colored pencils, and other notetaking supplies.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will complete daily exit tickets and receive verbal feedback. Parents will receive weekly written feedback reports. Learners will receive teacher and peer feedback on their final projects.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This class uses Nearpod. Learners will need to be able to click a link from the zoom chat or outschool classroom and enter their first name or initial. There are no log-ins required.
