Middle School Social Skills Group
In this 6 week course, students will learn social skills as well as coping skills to use both in the classroom and at home. The goal for these skills include de-escalation and preventative self-care skills!

Welcome to "Middle School Social Skills Group!" This four week class focuses on preventive skills & strategies, conversational, and social skills! Students will be able to describe what a skill is. Students will be able to identify when they should use a skill as a preventative measure in an educational setting. Students will be able to identify expected vs unexpected behavior. Students will be able to use self-advocacy skills to ask for the time and space to use skills in an academic setting. Students will be able to demonstrate three different breathing techniques. Students will be able to demonstrate positive self talk, and at least three self affirmations. Students will be able to demonstrate the use of manipulatives (think fidgets) and other creative skills.
I currently am a special education teacher licensed in grades prek-8. I work in a specialized program that is trauma-informed, and focuses on emotional behavioral disorders.
Homework Offered
Coming into week 3! Students will be challenged to identify examples of expected vs unexpected behavior within the academic setting that they experienced throughout the week. Weeks 4-6! Students will be challenged to practice the skills learned in each class at least three times throughout the week. Parents feel free to encourage your student to practice these skills both at home and at school! It may be easier for your student to begin practicing these skills at home, before feeling comfortable using them at school.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
