Class experience

MS-LS 2-1 Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for the effects of resource availability on organisms and populations of organisms in an ecosystem.

MS-LS 2-3 Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem.

MS-ESS 2-2 Construct an explanation based on evidence for how geoscience processes have changed Earth's surface at varying time and spacial scales.

MS-ESS 3-2 Analyze and interpret data on natural hazards to forecast future catastrophic events and inform the development of technologies to mitigate their effects.
I have a Master of Arts degree in Teaching Science 5-9 in addition to 2 years of classroom teaching experience and 2 years of substitute teaching experience.
Students will be given weekly supply lists for at home labs as needed. If students are unable to obtain the supplies, the activity will be demonstrated for them in class and they will be able to follow along without supplies.

*A printer is helpful for the activities but not necessary as most of them can be easily manipulated online.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
While not explicitly taught, it is possible in student-led discussions that another student may bring up how the world began, The Big Bang Theory, or the general time in which most scientists believe the universe began. I always teach that science is changing based on new technology and evidence, and no one was around at the beginning of time to verify things for sure. When the origin of the universe is brought up, I mention this in addition to the current evidence and general consensus among the science community is the universe began as a singularity (1 atom) roughly 13.8 billion years ago.
We will be using Kesler Science materials including 5E lessons, Projects, Inquiry labs, and related reading articles as needed. No purchase of Kesler Science products is necessary when enrolling in the class (your enrollment fee covers the learner cost towards the curriculum). Please note that only enrolled students have the publisher's permission to use this material. Material cannot be reproduced or used for any reason other than for individual student use in this course.
