Class Experience

In this class, students will learn the basic parts and functions of a plant and animal cell. Students will be able to label and construct a model of a cell and identify its parts and functions of the main organelles of the cell. They will make real world connections to the organelles of a cell to parts/roles in their world. Students will see it modeled and then provide examples. As a teacher I use the MAWL method: Model, Assist, Watch, Let Go. I will model the method, assist the student, watch the student, and launch them to be independent in the skill. Students will be fully engaged through power point slides, interactive discussion, teacher and student modeling, as well as inspiration from others. A basic understanding of the scientific method would be helpful.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basic parts and functions of a plant and animal cell. They will also be able to reproduce cells through drawing and creating cells on their own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I have been in the education field for over 25 years. Although I taught in the public school setting for 17 years, I also have experience teaching homeschool children. Currently, I homeschool my own high school and middle school children, as well as teach middle school and high school science to area homeschool students. While I have experience with various subjects and ages, I am most passionate about teaching science. I have a passion for learning and getting students to be life-long learners. I also have a deep love for history, science, and literature. My family and I currently serve as missionaries to the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
