US Grade 5 - 8
Come explore heredity and DNA in this hands-on engaging class. Week 1- We'll explore the basics of heredity by learning about Mendel's research, dominant and recessive traits, genes, alleles, genotype, phenotypes, incomplete dominance, and codominance. Learners will be provided with a worksheet to print out that will allow them to practice the skills they have learned. Learners will be able to practice vocabulary with a Quizlet. Week 2- We'll learn all about Punnett Squares including the probability and ratio of traits being passed along. We'll solve several Punnett Square problems together using a teacher-provided worksheet. The bonus activity this week is an online Kahoot activity to review skills. Week 3- This week is all about DNA! We'll start by using a Nearpod to learn about the discovery of DNA, its structure, replication, and mutations. Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I grew up in Wisconsin where I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at UW Stout. I've taught for the public school system for 14 years in a variety of positions including classroom teacher, interventionist, ELL teacher and elementary science lab teacher. I hold a Masters Degree in Reading and School Administration from Johns Hopkins. After leaving the public school system I've spent the last several years teaching middle school Science and History at a homeschool tutorial while being a homeschool mom. I enjoy teaching hands on engaging courses that spark the interest of students with the ultimate goal of encouraging them to become life long learners. I welcome student interaction and questions.
In my personal life I LOVE to read, travel and explore new areas, especially the beach! I am a Girl Scout leader and adore every single girl in my troop. As a troop leader I am certified in several outdoors areas- archery, canoe, kayak, camping, etc. I can't wait to share some of my love of the outdoors with families here on Outschool.
