In this one time course, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students will learn introductory skills and approaches to understanding poetry as a whole by practicing their ability to identify figurative language, deeply analyze, and think abstractly.

Homework
🪶 Homework will not be assigned, however, class participation will be necessary! 🪶 Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts throughout. 🪶 Students will be provided with fill-in-the-blank notes to ensure no one gets left behind. 🪶 These notes will be filled in during class. 🪶 The central text will be shared on-screen so no link to 3rd party resources is necessary.
Assessment
🪶 Students will be provided fill-in-the-blank notes with short reflection sections that will allow them to individually practice reflection, analysis, and abstract thought. 🪶 These notes will be completed by the end of class (if someone misses blanks in their notes we will spend a short amount of time at the end of class to go back through and make sure everyone gets caught up).

🐦 CLASS SYNOPSIS 🐦
     🪶 In this one time class, students will learn introductory skills and approaches to understanding poetry as a whole by practicing their ability to identify figurative language, deeply analyze, and think abstractly.
     🪶 Not only will students be introduced to one of the most famous poems of all time (Hope is the Thing with Feathers by Emily Dickinson), they will be challenged to understand it in both meaning and form.  

🐦 OVERVIEW/DETAILS 🐦
     🪶 Single 55 minutes class
     🪶 Class time includes in-class comprehension/discussion questions, a powerpoint lesson, and provided skeleton notes
     🪶 Lesson will cover "5 hints" to understanding poem
     🪶 Students will be eased into 5 skills necessary for comprehending and analyzing poetry
     🪶 Students will practice comprehension and analysis poetry

🐦 TEACHING STYLE 🐦
     🪶 Student-to-student discussion and interaction
     🪶 I aim to facilitate conversation, protect think-time, and posing questions that provoke deeper thought based on the central text. 
     🪶 I love interacting with my students!  I will be apart of the conversation as well 😁
     🪶 Lessons will be shared to ensure all students comprehend concepts and themes
     🪶 While students will be challenged to think deeply, their perspective will always be encouraged and celebrated.  
     🪶 I hope that students feel as welcomed to think as they are challenged in their thinking. 
     🪶 Down-to-earth discussions and I love an occasional tangent so that learning is organic!
