Middle School Nutrition & Wellness Curriculum is a semester-long course that will educate learners in the science of our food and nutrition, including basic food groups, micronutrients, macronutrients, food trends and so much more.

Happy Kids Nutrition Academy offers many different classes in nutrition, such as sports nutrition, meal planning for plant-based eaters, food labeling, food groups, GMO, and food science. Good nutrition and healthy habits begin at a young age. Our mission is to inspire kids to live a healthier lifestyle and to learn about nutrition early so that they can utilize that knowledge in their adult life. Our teachers are all trained teaching classes in body image, agriculture, GMOs as these topics were discussed in community nutrition classes. For teacher bios, please see our organization profile.
There will be multiple homework assignments given every week to learners. They will be posted to the classroom in PDF's
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This course will be referring to the healthy eating guidelines established in the United States and Canada and will be inclusive to learners with different dietary needs. While the food guidelines are only "guidelines", it is not always suitable for everyone with certain food intolerances or those that different dietary protocols. Please let me know if your learner follows a specific dietary protocol. Students will learn how to read a food label as outlined by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Throughout this course, we will be briefly discussing kilojoules for learners that do not use calories in their country. ***note about lifecycle unit: This course will briefly touch base on pregnancy nutrition as part of the lifecycle nutrition unit. While we do not focus on teen pregnancy, pregnancy nutrition is part of human nutrition through the lifecycle.
