Taught by a certified music teacher, this flexible class will allow students to study various music history, theory, and appreciation skills. Topics will include: Unit 1: Introduction to Music Theory Week 1: Sound and Pitch Week 2: Voices and Instruments Week 3: Rythm Week 4: Melody, Harmony, Key Week 5: Musical Texture Week 6: Musical Form Week 7: Musical Performance and Style Week 8: Final Project Students will receive pre-recorded lessons weekly from the instructor and access platforms on their devices with the instructor’s guidance. Pre-recorded classes are designed in an engaging way to leave room for creativity and open discussion with understanding. Discussion and hands-on learning will support student-center learning. Students will use Nearpod to access class materials. No account will be needed. Learners will interact with the instructor and each other each week that the class is in session. Discussions will be led in the Outschool classroom to create a natural collaboration flow for student-led projects. After each class, students will be given optional homework assignments/projects to work on. Students will then be able to turn in their assignments to receive a final grade.
