This ongoing course will give students will have the chance to build and maintain their number sense and math vocabulary by participating in a number talk! By utilizing various methods and tools, students will be provided a challenge, a puzzle, or a picture to utilize their number sense and background knowledge of math! Small class sizes will allow students the individualized attention and speaking opportunities to share their strategies and compare with other students. Each week will include the same schedule with various problems: Monday: Which one does not belong? Students will compare four pictures and use their sense of geometry to describe which one "does not belong". Tuesday: Would you rather? Students will use their knowledge of numbers and algebra to compare two different word problems. Wednesday: Estimation- Using their spatial reasoning and number sense, students will have to create an educated guess on various lengths, amounts and heights. Thursday: Visual Patterns- Students will view three different pictures and use their understanding of patterns and algebra to create the equation that corresponds to the pictures. Friday: What is the same? What is different? - Students will view two different objects to compare them using their understanding of geometry and quantity. These number talks will be done through an interactive platform in which students can collaborate with one another and discuss the concept as a whole group. We will be using breakout rooms for students to discuss in small groups as well as Nearpod for student to document their thoughts and responses. Students do not need any prior knowledge to participate in this class.

Welcome to Seed and Stem Learning Center by Bailey Nelson and Kenneth Kirk!
As a prior public school teacher, Bailey experienced the positive difference that scientific inquiry can have on students. Kenneth, who received his Bachelor's of Business Degree in Economics, found a passion in educating young students the improtance of financial literacy and business education. Bailey and Ken used this inspiration to create a program that allows students to connect across the globe through quality and inclusive education.
Although students take classes virtually, they will be inspired through hands-on and real-world applications and problems. Through our engaging courses, students will develop (or enhance) their love of all subjects by connecting to real-life applications and problems.
Teachers and tutors are all vetted through a rigorous process that focuses on scientific inquiry, problem-based learning, and hands-on pedagogy. Teachers come from a variety of backgrounds including education, economics, engineering, and computer science.
