US Grade 7 - 8
In this class, students will learn two topics per week. The material will be taught traditionally by introducing the students to the topic, practicing together, and utilizing breakout rooms to allow students to work in pairs to practice working on the topic themselves. Slides will be used to present each topic. Kahoot and Blooket will also be used to reinforce each topic further. These games are timed. Please make sure that your student is okay with timed games. Some students don't like it, and some do! Optional homework will be assigned and sent in the classroom. Homework will be sent at the beginning of every week and answer keys will be sent at the end of the week. This class is very structured to ensure that all subject matter is covered during class to ensure that students get to ask questions if they need clarification. We also like to laugh and have fun in class, as long as time permits! Please read the full description! ---> Pre-Algebra does review earlier middle school math. This is to ensure students have a solid foundation when starting Algebra 1. It is essentially a review and introduction to Algebra 1 topics. This class is for students who had trouble in 6th-grade math and are not quite ready to jump into Algebra 1. ---> This class is subscription-based and you will be charged on a weekly basis. On weeks that we don't have class, you do not have to unsubscribe. You will only be charged on weeks that class is scheduled. ---> If you choose to start with the first topic, this class will go over all of the most important Pre-Algebra topics your student needs. ---> Each topic will be individual, and you can join or unsubscribe at any time. You can also pick and learn the topics individually if you choose to. The class will be structured as follows: 5 minutes - Warm-up 15 minutes - Introducing the topic and showing examples 10 minutes - Working through example problems together 10 minutes - Sending students to breakout rooms to practice together 10 minutes - Ending game or activity and goodbyes Units included in the class are the following: *Arithmetic Properties *Factors and Multiples *Reading and Interpreting Data *Measurement *Fractions *Decimals *Negative Numbers and Coordinate Plane *Ratios, Rates, and Proportions *Equations, Expressions, and Inequalities *Exponents, Radicals, and Scientific Notation Class Schedule: The week of Nov 27th Introduction to Exponents Using the Order of Operations The week of Dec 4th Variables and Algebraic Expressions Adding Integers The week of Dec 11th Subtracting Integers Multiplying and Dividing Integers The week of Dec 18th Addition and Subtraction Equations Multiplication and Division Equations The week of Jan 8th Introduction to Inequalities Comparing and Ordering Rational Numbers The week of Jan 15th Adding and Subtracting Rational Numbers Multiplying Rational Numbers The week of Jan 22nd Dividing Rational Numbers Solving Equations with Rational Numbers The week of Jan 29th Solving Two-Step Equations Ordered Pairs The week of Feb 5th Graphing on a Coordinate Plane Interpreting Graphs and Tables The week of Feb 12th Functions Equations, Tables, and Graphs The week of Feb 19th Product and Power Properties of Exponents Integer Exponents The week of Feb 26th Quotient Properties of Exponents An Application of Exponents: Scientific Notation The week of March 4th Square Roots and Real Numbers Operations with Square Roots The week of March 11th The Pythagorean Theorem and the Distance Formula Perimeter and Area of Rectangles and Parallelograms The week of March 18th Perimeter and Area of Triangles and Trapezoids Circles The week of March 25th Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Volume of Pyramids and Cones The week of April 1st Surface Area of Prisms and Cylinders Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones The week of April 8th Organizing Data Measures of Central Tendency The week of April 15th Variability and Box-and-Whisker Plots Scatter Plots The week of April 22nd Graphing Linear Equations Slope of a Line The week of April 29th (LAST WEEK) Using Slopes and Intercepts Point-Slope Form
