In this 8-week FLEX, students will work with fractions, ratios and scale factor, evaluating formulas, and other pre-algebra related skills as they explore how these skills can present themselves in the field of architecture.

Class experience

US Grade 5 - 8
In this 8-week course, students will use:

-simple formulas to calculate volume and area
-GCF to simplify fractions/LCM to add and subtract fractions
-events and outcomes to calculate probability of an event
-scale factors to enlarge and reduce shapes
-equations to find missing angle measure
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in STEM. My training in STEM allowed me the opportunity to create cross-curricular lessons to help students make connections within a variety of subjects. With 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom coupled with 5 years of experience teaching online to students with varying abilities and needs, I feel extremely qualified to deliver this instruction to learners via Outschool.
Homework Offered
Students will be provided with an assignment each week to complete, focusing on the topic that was covered. They will complete this assignment independently so that the feedback provided is reflective of the individual's work. The time spent to complete homework could range from 10 minutes - 30 minutes, depending on the assignment.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
An assessment will be provided with each lesson. Students that submit the assessment will receive a grade for the assignment, as well as feedback on the work, and opportunities to make corrections if needed.
Grades Offered
Students should have a three-ring binder in order to keep track of assignments and notes each week. I will provide a PDF via Outschool messages that will explain to students what needs to be for the week (objective, discussion question, video, practice and assessment). A calculator and graph paper would be nice items to have, however, when possible, I will suggest websites that may have the tools that a learner may need (example: online calculators).
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
n/a
I will use Quizizz activities to reinforce skills reviewed. If students are not able to create a Quizizz account, the problems will be provided in PDF form and attached to the lesson.
