Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be assigned various activities and assignments throughout the course. These assignments will include online simulations, presentations and projects.
Assessment
Students will be assessed through performance and written assessments throughout the course along with activities, experiments, and simulations.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
This course will cover the Middle School NGSS Life Science Standards in a hands-on and engaging way! Real-world problems, situations, and problem-based learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course. Students will have multiple opportunities to interact with other students and me throughout this course in order to get the most out of their online experience. 

Students will meet for a live meeting once a week for instruction, demonstrations, group work, and experiments. The rest of the week will provide students the opportunity to complete projects, interact with other classmates through platforms such as Outschool discussions, and complete online simulations. Students will also have access to an online textbook and additional resources through CK12.org. 

Students will have multiple performance assessments throughout the course in order to assess their understanding in addition to problem-based learning projects and experiments. 

The following topics will be covered during this 8-week course:

Unit 7: Homeostasis and Disease
Week 1:  Regulating Blood Sugar
Week 2: Infectious Disease
Week 3: Antibiotics and Resistance
Week 4: Spread of Diseases

Unit 8: Plants
Week 5: Flowering Plant Life Cycles 
Week 6: Plant Adaptations
Week 7: Environmental Influence on Plant Growth
Week 8: Plant Symbiosis

Students who are already taking Life Science can enroll for additional support and practice. Homeschooled students can enroll in a complete Life Science curriculum. 

Students will meet once a week for a live lesson. After this lesson, students will be given several options to complete homework for the week including worksheets, labs, and projects.
