Description
Class Experience
Students will explore a variety of life science topics including ecology, animal classification and structure, animal behavior, food chains, food webs, energy pyramids, ecological succession, cycles in nature, ecosytems and land biomes, human body structure and organization, disease and our immune response.
I have been a K-12 teacher for over 17 years with a specialization in science education. I have been a middle school life science teacher for 7 years. I have also worked in the life sciences outside of education as well as a zoologist and animal husbandry expert. I consult and write curriculum for a science education company. I have a degree from UC Davis where I focused on Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology. I have been teaching science for 20 years.
Homework will consist of about 1-2 hours a week. It will include worksheets, labs, and some projects. This class will use the See Saw App to turn in assignments and quiz's. Some reading will be provided and assigned, as well as vocabulary words.
Handouts and a supply list will be available in the class room. Supplies will vary by week. General Supplies: Pencil/Pen, Colored Pencils, Scissors, Glue Stick, College Ruled Spiral Notebook.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Human body systems, functions and organization will be covered. Excluding the reproductive system. Some labs will require supplies or the use of different scientific tools.
