Class Experience

Students will improve reading comprehension, writing skills, and speaking and listening skills.

I am a certified teacher with 7 years of experience. I have received extensive training in ELA topics and receive professional development monthly in order to perfect my teaching skills and learn best practices. I have also received sensitivity training through my place of employment (a public school), as well as differentiating instruction training to foster inclusion in the classroom.

Students will have weekly homework assignments in between class sessions. These will include reading and completing journal entries. They will also finish writing tasks they don't finish during class time (I am available all other days of the week for assistance, tutoring, and feedback).

The Diary of Anne Frank dramatized: Flowers for Algernon:
In writing, students will be given a number score based on a rubric. Students will be given feedback on all assignments and an overall letter score every four weeks. If you would like more detailed grading, I am happy to do so. If you would like no grading at all, I am happy to do that as well.

1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
The Diary of Anne Frank is a book about war and the Holocaust. Due to the topics of this book, please make sure your learner is okay with sad themes and themes of death. The Diary of Anne Frank also discusses Anne's first person perspective as she goes through puberty. This is a common middle school book, and is one of the most popular books ever written in history. The content is appropriate, but make sure your learner is not uncomfortable with themes of war or violence. Please read more about this book:

Furthermore, "The Tell-Tale Heart" is spooky and has weird twists and turns. Please make sure your learner is not uncomfortable with spooky stories.

"Flowers for Algernon" has topics of bullying and other sad themes. This is a fantastic short story that teaches empathy, love, and kindness, but please make sure your learner is comfortable with sad themes.
