Class Experience

This introductory course to biology and life science will begin with a general survey of the six kingdoms of life and their cell structures. Students will learn the general differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells and identify the structures unique to the larger animal, plant and fungus cells.  Both cell respiration and photosynthesis will be covered as well as the cellular processes of osmosis and diffusion.  The differences between mitosis and meiosis will be discussed as will...

I have a PhD in Microbiology but soon thereafter became certified to teach because I wanted to be with kids. I have many years experience teaching middle school science including many years of middle school life science.  Even in an online setting, I make my classes as hands-on, interesting, fun, and rigorous as possible.

Optional assignments will be offered.

Students will need a notebook for assignments, observations, and experimental results. Occasionally students will need certain easily-obtainable materials from stores to complete activities.

50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
