Class Experience

Are you looking for a computer class for your teenager? Then this is the class for you! In the 14 week class, your child will learn the basics of a word processing program, how to create presentations, creating art while learning spreadsheets, drawings, basic coding language, and how to block code. This class will primarily use a variety of Google Apps. However, the skills learned are transferable to many other word processing programs.
The following list is the planned schedule for this course. 

Week 1 Basic keyboarding: Learn the Home row on the keyboard and basics of typing. There will also be a website provided to continue practicing typing skills.

Week 2 - Review home row, Learn word processing by writing a story with only your voice

Week 3 Learn how to use a spreadsheets by pixel making art

Week 4 Learn proper searching while looking for pictures to use their next week

Week 5 Learning presentations by making GIFs using pictures found

Week 6 Learn more about presentations and write a poem 

Week 7 Use shapes in presentations and make a shape. This lesson will also include learning and practicing the use of keyboard shortcuts.

Week 8 Create a card, image, or comic using Drawings

Week 9 Review and share skills learning in the first 8 weeks of class

Week 10 Introduction to coding language (This class will start with coding words via physical activities.)

Week 11 Coding - Beginner block coding - This lesson will focus on simple block coding so that students can begin to grasp the sequencing of events. 

Week 12 Coding - Block coding part two - This lesson will be an extension of the previous week. 

Week 13 Coding using Scratch - This coding program uses block coding that is more difficult that the previous programs used.

Week 14 Final coding project using Scratch. Students will be encouraged to share their project with their peers and the teacher.

Other Details

Supply List
Each learner may work on his or her own computer or with a partner. There is only one site that will not work on a mobile device.
Each learner needs access to a Google account and have the ability to access the scratch coding website.
