In this semester long course (14 weeks), students will explore essential middle school writing skills in an advanced setting. *Think of this class as an "AP" or Advanced Placement class for writing. This course is meant to fulfill core curriculum in your child's yearly education. Students will be required to send work to the teacher before enrollment (please message for details) to see if the class is a good fit. I offer other writing courses, as well!* Students will explore various types...
Students will learn advanced writing skills that enhance the established writing abilities they already possess, and teach them new skills. This class will also help students learn to thrive in a discovery-based environment while learning core writing curriculum.
I have over 10 years experience working in the education/childcare field. I am a certified teacher, holding an EC-8th grade certification. My bachelors degree is in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Students will be expected to complete independent assignments outside of class most weeks. Students will also be expected to complete their vocabulary work each week via FlipGrid.
Writing Materials Ability to Research
Students will be assessed initially before/upon enrollment by submitting some piece of writing work. Throughout the course, students will receive rubrics for independent practice assessments and then be given their overall score. Students will receive an end of semester report card.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Students should be prepared to be challenged throughout the course. Students will have FULL support of me, the teacher, but they should be willing to go outside of their comfort zone. This includes sharing work and exploring concepts they may not feel 100% confident in. Students are required to use FlipGrid which is serves as our private class forum to upload their academic videos for vocabulary work. This does require a login for all students to use.
