The middle years are tricky, but we can find comfort and connection through books. Graphic novels offer a unique experience for even the most reluctant readers! With beautiful artwork, rich vocabulary and relatable plot lines, these current classics will hook even the most resistant reader. My book clubs are chatty and laid back. As a previous middle school English teacher, I am experienced in leading book clubs and lessons to tween readers. As a parent to two tween daughters myself, I understand book choice is personal. I believe in cultivating a classroom where readers can be among fellow book-lovers in a safe and supportive environment.
Learners will need to have previously read a copy of the week's graphic novel selection.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
As an educator and parent, I understand that book choice is personal. While these graphic novels are written for middle school aged readers, it's recommended for parents to preview or check parental guidance websites to make their own decision.
