Students will receive guided practice in Spanish conversation. We will discuss topics that are common to daily life for youth of ages 13-18, such as favorite school activities, hobbies, pleasant experiences, and more. We will avoid sensitive topics. Each meeting will be structured with a topic for discussion. The discussion questions will include sentence starters. Use of Spanish is the norm for this club. Students will apply their Spanish grammar and vocabulary knowledge to interact verbally with peers, family, professionals, and in public.
I have spent several summers and countless trips to Latin America. This included two summers in immersion language study at Vancouver Language Centre in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I maintain my Spanish proficiency by reading, listening to audio and video, engaging with native Spanish-speakers, and as a service to Spanish-speaking families in the community of the urban middle school where I am employed.
Homework is not required, but study of flash cards provided is recommended.
