US Grade 6 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
During this class, we will review ELA skills such as determining the difference between subject and main idea of a text as well as supporting details, using context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words, figurative language definitions and examples, and inferencing and drawing conclusions. We will spend 15 minutes on each skill. Each skill will include a teacher led review, independent learner practice and a collaborative wrap up. I will use Google Slides for all notes and activities. Because this is a fast paced review, learners should have prior knowledge of each skill and are encouraged to review the notes provided before the start of class. In this session, learners will engage with me the entire time. If time permits, we will complete some activities for review on Nearpod.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the difference between the subject or topic of a text and the main idea, and which details appropriately support the main idea. Students will learn how to use context clues to determine the meanings of words that they don't already know. Students will review the definitions for simile, metaphor, personification, idiom and alliteration and learn how to spot examples in a text. Students will also learn how to make inferences based on background knowledge and textual evidence.
