Class Experience

This is a single class in a series that deals with one aspect of public speaking at a time. Our next stop: the Voice. Even though we use our voice to speak, the way we speak says so much more than the words we choose to say. Sounding confident and interesting requires knowing how to master that tiny larynx. This is the place to do that.

It's all about confidence. Whether you are explaining to your boss why you are late or convincing a jury that your arguments reflect the facts, you need confidence to persuade. Even if you are just explaining something to others, confidence is still key to keep people's interests. And when you are just chilling with your friends... you guessed it! Confidence is key.

This class will take a look at how to:
Use variation in tone
Use vocal pacing
Use volume control
Use proper enunciation

This class is great for beginners up to the experienced as the rules are always the same and everyone can use a bit more polish on their style.
Each learner should find or write a paragraph of at least five (5) sentences about a subject of the learner's choice. They will use this as their "speech" during the lesson. (If you took Part 1 of this series, you may use the same paragraph or get a new one)
Learners should be prepared to speak. This is a hands-on class which means I'll explain and then the learners do. We will also use peer-evaluation as I find that very helpful in solidifying the concepts in the mind of the learner.
Due to the nature of the class, we will go longer than the normal 55 minutes. Please note this when scheduling.

Public speaking is no longer an option. Everyone is going to be on camera at some point. Every job requires an interview where communication skills are evaluated consciously or not. Every social interaction is measured against the noise of professional speakers. People need to know how to sound confident and competent when speaking in front of people. This class series gives you the introductory basics of what makes someone a good communicator.

I’ve coached kids in their speaking skills for over a decade and have watched even the most scared learner gain confidence in front of others. My combination of explanation, modeling and repetitious coaching helps kids push their skills to the limit. Not everyone will be a professional speaker, but everyone can improve.
