Class Experience
Welcome to Messy Music! This class is exactly like the titles states, we will be exploring music by making a MESS! We will be outside for most of our classes in order to make clean up easier. If you are unable to participate outdoors it is possible to participate indoors, but please make sure to allow for a space with easy clean up. Students will use a variety of materials from around the house to explore and discover music. During our time together students will receive a video each week with an activity to work on outside. Each student will post a picture in the classroom what they have discovered about our musical concept from the video of the week. To encourage students to interact together each student will "be the teacher" and create an activity to teach one of the concepts we learned about during out time together. Students will be asked to either create a video or a worksheet/write up explaining the activity. Activities do not need to be complex or long but instead a game or activity they feel would be fun! Class 1- Musical Staff- What are the notes on the staff? What is a staff? Focus will be on treble clef notes. Class 2- Sound- Exploration of pitch and dynamics Class 3- The Piano- Learn the note names on the piano and explore the geography of the piano. Class 4- Wind instruments! How do we use our air to make sound? Class 5- The BIG mess! Explore rhythm in music

Michelle has been teaching music to young children for many years. She has lived in Canada her whole life where we endure very harsh winters at times. Because of these winters we value our summers greatly and get very creative to bring our learning outside. There have been some wonderful studies showing a link between student learning and physical activity. This class is based around that research and in making music FUN!
