Description

Class Experience

The purpose of this class is to cultivate autonomy, and critical thinking skills on the topic of Gender and Sexism. Our youth today face many challenges from social media influences to their future aspirations and even self-identification. This is a 1 hour class that helps to provide a foundation of understanding in terms of Gender and Sexism covering 4 concepts over a period of 4 weeks. The topics we will deconstruct are: Employment, Gaming, LGBTQIA-Drag Sexism and Binary breakdowns....

This class is taught in English.

Objective: Students will have gained knowledge about what gender and sexism mean from an interpersonal perspective.  Students will utilize self-awareness and critical thinking skills in discussion and how this content is currently relevant.

I am a Diversity & Inclusion instructor with a degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. I have been a professional drag king and LGBTQI community advocate for over 8 years.  My coursework heavily focused on Gender and Sexuality studies as well as Family and Child development. I have coordinated training, workshops, shows and fundraisers for causes like “The Trevor Project” and PRIDE celebrations.

There is no formal homework for this class, however students are encouraged to watch the full links provided for continued content as a way of adding multiple perspectives to the topic.

No other supplies are needed at this time.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

There are no formal Assessments given however: feedback and coaching are provided during the live course to determine competency of the material.

1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

This class covers the topic of Gender and sexism from many angles. This class is strictly presented as an educational and informational tool.  Students are never asked about their personal status or experiences. I have provided all content via the supported links that will be used for parental review. *Students will not be asked to review or preform the “Gender tag” element in class.  However, the option is presented if students want to explore that activity beyond the classroom. *Please send me a message if you have any questions or concerns.
