Class Experience

I am taking a break from Outschool during the months of March, April, May, and June. Stay tuned for classes in July. :)

Merhorses and Bubbles is the 3rd book in the Zoey and Sassafras series. The books can be read out of order as long as the reader knows the basics of the first book. My science and book clubs for the first 2 books have been a big hit. I am ready to dive into book 3 with my students.

Zoey is always ready to help the magical creatures in her forest. This time the problem is bigger than the creature. Zoey has to investigate the stream in her forest. What is happening to the merhorses and mayflies? Students will read a section of the book before each meeting. We will discuss the book and do hands-on activities to deepen our understanding of the real science found in the book.

Week 1 Discuss chapters 1-3, Craft, create a water viewer
Week 2 Discuss chapters 4-6, Macroinvertebrates discovery and game
Week 3 Discuss chapters 7-9, pH balance test activity
Week 4 Discuss chapters 10-13, Casserole dish watershed experiment

Students are required to have a digital or physical copy of Zoey and Sassafras: Merhorses and Bubbles.
Returning Student Discount given through a refund.

Parental Guidance
Students will create many science projects. All the projects are safe but could lead to messes. I will give directions sheets prior to the meeting to limit the number of messes. Most of the supplies are easily found around the house. Two supplies highly recommended for the class include any type of playdough and Litmus pH Test Strips. Litmus pH Test Strips are a few dollars. You could also ask around and see if you can have 3 strips from family or friends that are into science. If students do not have supplies, I will have photos and examples to view. It is more fun to do the experiments, though.
Supply List
toilet paper or paper towel cardboard tube
Litmus pH Test Strips (copy and paste into Amazon, for example, get the smallest package)
playdough-any kind
casserole dish or plastic bin
recycled containers like yogurt cups
plastic wrap
food coloring
rubberband
I will send a direction sheet each week containing the necessary supplies.

Students are required to have a digital or paperback copy of the book, Zoey and Sassafras: Merhorses and Bubbles.
 1 file available upon enrollment
