Mercy is at it again. Only this time she's dressed as a princess? Oh my! Was she really in disguise? Each meeting students will be expected to have read the assigned chapters. This is a great start to reading comprehension assessment. This class is designed for young readers getting familiar with book clubs, as well as those young readers who just love to read. I hope that it will inspire them to want to read more. Book clubs are a great way to motivate us to read, providing accountability. We will discuss in light detail, the characters, settings, and a few vocabulary words from the story along the way. When a child reads, their imagination comes to life. I hope that by discussing the story that they will be inspired to dig deeper. At the end of each meeting we will play a fun story related game or have a craft (which printable materials and instructions for will be sent prior to class). No worries, we will do the crafts together in class. I'm very excited to read with your child and discover what crazy situations Mercy has gotten into this time. For our last meeting, students are welcome to wear their halloween costumes to class if they have one. If they do not have one and they WANT to participate I will be glad to sent a mask to print (best printed on stiff paper like card stock). Before our first meeting: students should have completed reading chapters 1-2. Pay special attention to the title and author's name. We will discuss the type of animal Mercy is and learn a few swine vocabulary. We will discuss characters and setting up to this point. At the end of this class we will do a quick craft to help us in our journey thru the rest of the book. Meeting 2: Students should have completed reading chpt 3-4. We will begin by learning/reviewing any new vocabulary words. We will learn about the events leading up to chaos and analyze characters reactions to these events. Meeting 3: Students should have completed reading chpt 5-7. We will begin by reviewing/learn a few vocabulary words. Meeting 4: Students should have completed chpt 8-10. Meeting 5: Students should have completed chpt 11-13 Meeting 6: In this meeting students will have completed chpt 14-16. We will wrap up our discussion about Mercy Watson and the funny events that seem to 'conveniently' occur around her. Who gathered around the breakfast table? Did any of the characters or their perspectives change? How did you feel about this book? Do you hope to read more about Mercy Watson?

Supply List
paper, crayons/pencils, scissors, glue/tape Most of required materials will just be printing templates on paper that we will use in class to cut and design or use for game. We have one activity that uses the round head fasteners (they are the pins that allow a craft to be movable). Students may also choose to use glue/tape, and crayons/colored pencils. They are welcome to use colored paper but that is an individual decision.
