Do you think you might want to pursue a career in IT? These jobs range from networking, to coding, and even to my personal field of cybersecurity. This class offers older students a chance to chat with a mentor (myself) actively working in IT. Class will begin with a brief recount of my personal journey into this career. This will be followed by "Question Board #1" where students can ask any questions they may already have about IT or in regards to my path into the career. I hope students can come prepared with any interests, inquiries, or concerns about beginning their own IT journey, so that I can help guide and mentor them as best I can towards their goals. Following our discussion, we will begin a deep dive into the pathways students may choose to enter the profession. From starting their path in high school, staying their path in college, succeeding on their path with career, or even ways off the typical path that some end up in IT. Lastly, class ends with "Question Board #2" where the floor will be open to students to discuss and/or ask any questions about our deep dive and pathway exploration. I'm passionate about this topic because I know the pressure of being a teen trying to figure out life goals and next steps. I hope to at least help them find a little clarity as they make these important life decisions.
