In this class, students will learn about strategies they can use to solve addition problems mentally. The class will be interactive, with students expected to participate and practice the strategies that they learn about. Day One: We will begin with subitizing and ordinal numbers. We will partition numbers (break them into smaller pieces). We will use part-whole circles to visually see the numbers 5 and 10 broken into parts so that we can create images in our minds. I am a licensed teacher in the State of Indiana with over 25 years experience teaching, tutoring and coaching. I have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method by The Dyslexia Institute of Indiana and in Kindergarten OG by the M.A. Rooney Foundation. In the past year I have completed Advanced Orton-Gillingham Training and Written Expression Training by the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana. I have completed courses in the past three years on dyslexia and structured literacy through the Montessori Foundation. I have also taken Conscious Discipline training. I am a professional member of the International Dyslexia Association. I am currently working on LETRS training through Voyager Sopris Learning. In 2018-2020 I worked in a private Montessori school serving students who have Individual Service Plans. I have been tutoring RightStart Math since 2010 and have taken students successfully from Level B through Level E.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
3 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
