Students will memorize the short poem, "There Was an Old Man with a Beard" by Edward Lear in this class. They will use a memorization trick using a basic layout of a bedroom to help them remember each line. After this class they will have that memory trick to apply to other passages they want to memorize and have a silly, short poem to recite to others for entertainment. Students memorize "There Was an Old Man with a Beard" by Edward Lear. Students will learn a memory trick using "locations" in a basic bedroom to help them remember the order of the poem. Students will recite the poem aloud to classmates and teacher. Students will be encouraged to recite the poem after class to a family member or friend. Students will brainstorm other poems or passages they want to memorize. Students will list "locations" in a bedroom they can use to help them memorize longer passages. Students will learn the names of the birds listed in this poem and identify them in pictures.
