Students will memorize the short poem "Rhyme" by Elizabeth Coatsworth in this class. They will use a memorization trick using a basic layout of a car to help them remember each line. After this class they will have that memory trick to apply to other passages they want to memorize and have a silly, short poem to recite to others for entertainment. Students will be provided with time to recite the poem in class, if they want, to the teacher and classmates. If time allows, we will memorize...
Students will memorize the poem "Rhyme" by Elizabeth Coastworth. Students will recite the poem in class. Students will learn a technique for memorizing that they can apply to other passages. Students will discuss their experiences with thunderstorms. Students will brainstorm other passages they want to memorize and how they can use the technique discussed in class to help them. Students will be encouraged to recite the poem to a family member or friend after the class is finished. Students will encourage other classmates as they recite the poem.
