Meeting the Maestros is a fun and interactive way to learn music history. In this class students will learn about a composer, learn some interesting facts, and get to listen to some of their most popular pieces. This is a very discussion-based class, so note-taking and participation is highly encouraged. Because we will be learning about a new composer each week, new students are always welcome in this class! Other composers might be referenced, but never to the extent that they will need to...
Students will learn about different composers and different musical eras. Students will be able to distinguish musical time periods and musical styles of different eras. Musical excerpts are played, and students will be able to recognize certain sounds of music from these different eras. Instruments, compositions, and composer background is discussed and will be at the forefront of the students' learning experience.
I love talking about music history. Not only am I passionate about telling the stories of some of the greatest composers we know, but I'm also passionate about sharing composers that are not as popular but are still very influential. It's exciting to hear different styles of music and be able to share that with learners.
A page on the composers biography is provided in the classroom after each class once students enroll. Links to special works that we listen to in class will also be posted in the classroom after class. Students should have note taking materials throughout the class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental guidance is not needed, however keep in mind that since we are discussing history certain topics will be briefly mentioned such as: church, sickness, death, revolutionary/political ideals. These are not thoroughly discussed in detail and are merely used to reference composers lives, family, job experience, and controversies. No political/revolutionary ideas and beliefs will be discussed, merely referenced in comparison to other composers of the time.
