Each session, I will introduce three influential women (from the early 19th century, mid 20th, to a present day/more recent feminist icon). I want the learners to participate by asking them what they know about this person already. They have the option to take notes or just listen. I'll provide interesting new facts and background as to what makes each woman a feminist icon. At the end of each session, I'll give the learners an opportunity to request a feminist icon for the next lesson and to...
I hope for students to learn some of the foundations of feminism while also learning history, social context, and other cultural dynamics. At the same time, I hope to inspire young students to pursue their interests and to have pride in who they are!
In university, I took classes heavily concentrated in English Literature and Women and Gender Studies; I've learned a lot about several brilliant female icons and authors. Although I specialize mostly in writing, I believe my acquired skills and knowledge will really come together in carrying out this class.
After each session, I want the learners to pick 1 out of the 3 feminist icons and create some sort of presentation based off what they've learned whether it's a drawing, story, poster, or even if they want to dress up! I'll give them about 1 minute or so to talk about who/what they decided to do and why.
They only need a writing utensil, paper, & if they choose, coloring tools!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
