Do you know which breed is called the "chrysanthemum faced" dog? Which breed got its start hunting vermin in underground tunnels? What breed's name means "butterfly" in French? Find out the answers to these questions, plus more. Come meet some of the more easily recognized members, as well as some not so familiar faces, of the AKC toy dogs. Students will learn through lecture, discussion, and viewing pictures. We will discuss modern day roles that these dogs have. Sports that toy dogs excel at will also be explored. We won't have time to meet all members of the group, but we will spotlight as many as possible. Come and meet the dogs that are small but mighty!

Hello! My name is Amy Rovtar Payne. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and have previously taught in the school system for several years. I live on a farm with lots of animals, where I follow my passion of training feral mustangs. I am a certified horseback riding instructor and enjoy teaching others to ride. When my schedule allows, I judge horse shows. I actively compete and am a title holder in dog sports such as agility, nosework, obedience and rally. I am studying to become an agility judge with the UKI. Currently I also work in a canine rehab center, where I lead hydrotherapy sessions and am a certified laser technician. Another one of my hobbies is writing, and I am a published author of non-fiction and poetry. I'm excited to share my knowledge with others!
