Meet the Nubians: The Black Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt (Small Class!)

We know little about them, but the Black Egyptians of ancient Nubia (Sudan) built a vital culture, rivaling ancient Egypt. They had their own pharaohs, built grand pyramids and were led into battle against the Romans by a one-eyed queen!

What's included

1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. There will be no official homework.
Assessment
There will be an informal, fun quiz at the beginning of the class (which students can download before) to see how much they know about ancient Egypt and Nubia and I will go over the same quiz with the students to see what they've learned after the class.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Learn about the Nubians - southern neighbors to the ancient Egyptians - with their own pharaohs, grand pyramids and temples - and who had a love/hate relationship with their Egyptian counterparts.

  We'll cover:
• The pyramids of Nubia: how many, what they looked like and the differences
between the Nubian and Egyptian pyramid complexes.
• The gods and goddesses of Nubia.
• The land of the greatest archers in the world.
• The Nubians as slaves in ancient Egypt.
• When the Nubians ruled ancient Egypt for over 100 years.
• The invention of Nubian writing.
• What Nubia (Sudan) is like today.

How I Teach:
- Classes with only four students.
- Dramatic Keynote (PowerPoint) presentation with
illustrations, maps and photos of ancient artwork.
- Animated lecture and discussion.
- The showing of genuine antiquities from my collection.
- The playing of a short video related to the subject.

I interact a lot with learners, encouraging kids to share their opinions, ideas, mistakes and triumphs. I love it when kids laugh. After the class, I message parents/caretakers to tell them how their student did, and I include extra files for their interest.

CLASS PRICE includes (in addition to the scheduled class):

1. Welcome message to both the student and enroller.
2. Quiz (actually, a learning tool) as a pre-lesson activity.
3. Personalized post-class message to the student and enroller,
detailing how the learner did in class and any recommendations.
4. Availability to answer a student's questions (by message) after class.
