Class Experience

This ongoing class will meet one day a week. Each week students will learn about an artist from history at the beginning of class. Then they will have the rest of the class time (45 minutes) to create a piece that is unique and inspired by the artist. We will learn about where the artist is from, view pieces of art from the artist and learn what inspired them. Students are welcome to use any art medium they desire. Students are welcome to attend any class at any time. This class is designed to be a casual and social experience!

***They do not have to take all of the scheduled classes.***

I am an artist, online art teacher, ESL teacher and homeschool mom with over 10 years of experience. I will help students with questions they may have about creating a piece, brainstorming or even learning new technical skills.

Hello There!

My name is Christy Anderson. It is very nice to meet you! I am a homeschooling, artist, ESL teacher, and mama of three wildlings. I am passionate about many things including helping children (and adults) express themselves through creative means, history, art history, spending time in nature, cake decorating, and rediscovering the lost art of handicrafts and folk-art. I have taught art classes and cake decorating classes locally for over 10 years. I also teach a variety of high school art classes at a local homeschool co-op.

I graduated with a bachelors in business from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and spent many years working for financial and insurance institutions. I made the decision 10 years ago to walk away from my job in corporate America in order to spend more time with my children and pursue my passions in art. During these last ten years I have taught cake decorating classes at local craft stores, worked as an online ESL teacher to children on the other side of the world in China. I also hold certifications in Teaching English as a Second Language from the International Open Academy as well as a certification in Drawing Nature, Science and Culture: Natural History Illustration from The University of Newcastle Australia.

I offer classes that support my own expertise and experience. These include drawing, digital art, learning about the masters, pre-school art and more. Digital art classes will use the Procreate app for iPad. The arts is a fantastic way for children, and adults, to grow in their creativity and self-expression.

I also have the pleasure of homeschooling my three children. I love the opportunity to encourage and foster a love of learning in our home. It has been an honor to walk beside them as they make discoveries every day about their own unique passions and interests. I strive to make learning fun and interesting whether it’s in my home, my co-op art classes or in my online ESL classroom. When children are engaged and having fun learning a topic, they are more likely to enjoy the learning process.

When I’m not teaching, you can find me drinking coffee, perusing the local library, crocheting, creating art in my studio or on my tablet, managing my surface pattern design business, chauffeuring my kids between activities and spending time with my family and two dogs.

I look forward to seeing you in class!

***Class Policies***

1.	Refund Policy: All live classes follow Outschools limited refund policy. You can find the Outschool refund policy here: https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/16379-refund-policies-and-happiness-guarantee

2.	Late or Missed Classes: All classes will begin at the scheduled time. If there are no learners in the classroom at the start of the scheduled time, then I will wait 15 minutes before exiting the classroom. I will not contact absent learners during class time.

3.	Class Transfers: I will answer class transfers within 24 hours in advance of a scheduled section

4.	Siblings: Per Outschool policy, all participating students must be enrolled.

5.	Minimum Enrollment Requirements: In the event, a class does not meet the scheduled amount of time, I will contact parents within 24 hours to confirm if they want to keep their learners enrolled. I will teach the class unless the parent or learner requests to transfer to a class with a fuller class.

6.	Classroom Behavior: I want all students to feel welcome and safe in class. I will not tolerate hate speech, discrimination, or other similar behaviors that will leave students feeling unsafe and uncomfortable in class.

7.	Video Requirements: Per Outschool policy, all students will need to visually check-in with me at the beginning of class. This will consist of the student temporarily opening their camera and waving or introducing themselves. Once verification is confirmed, they are welcome to turn off their camera and/or mute themselves depending on their comfort level. I encourage students to have their video open or audio on for a more engaging experience but it absolutely not necessary if they are uncomfortable.

8.	Virtual Backgrounds: These are fun additions to the zoom platform, however, per Outschool policy, all virtual backgrounds must be turned off during class as they can be quite a distraction.

9.	Chat Box: Chat conversations should remain on topic throughout the class. It can be very distracting when people are having their own side conversations.

10.	Class Recordings: All class recordings will be shared with the class as soon as they are available to me.
