This class intends to give the learner a deeper appreciation of wild cats. It will examine cat biology and ecology as well as the diversity of living cat species. Week 1: We will define what a cat is. We will examine the features that all cats share. We will learn a little taxonomy and how scientists study cats. Week 2: We will compare and contrast members of the genus Panthera (Leopard, Tiger, Snow Leopard, Lion and Jaguar) as well as Clouded Leopards and Cheetahs. Week 3: We will explore the lesser known but extremely diverse world of smaller wild cats such as the sand cat, the marbled cat and the lynx. Week 4: We will apply what we've learned about cats to discuss conservation challenges and efforts. We will also consider why cats of all kinds are loved by so many people. In this class we will use PowerPoint, videos and sound clips. Student input will be encouraged, especially during the final class. Printed materials combined with student notes and drawings can be compiled into a small handbook.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I want to share the endless topics of interest contained in biology.
I have a bachelors in environmental science with a major in conservation biology, as well as a bachelors in education. I developed science clubs for after school programs and have worked as a teacher for four years. Although biology is my favourite science I have taught physics, chemistry and earth sciences.
I believe every subject has inherent value. The more we learn about our world, the more we see and engage with our world. I want to help my students see a bit more of their world.
Fun Fact: I love to travel and the pictures I most want to share are the ones I take of insects! I read everything from history and literature to science textbooks and popular fiction.
