Often when we think about carnivores in the mammal world we focus on cats, dogs and bears. However, there is an entirely other side to order Carnivora. In this class we will focus on cat-like carnivores. Some kill snakes, some drink from flowers, some eat ants. Many of these cat-like carnivores have complex social behaviours and are very playful. Through a combination of PowerPoint and video the teacher will introduce this underrated group of animals.
Students will compare the diets of different cat-like carnivores. Students will discuss why these animals are considered cat-like.
I want my students to appreciate the diversity of living things on our earth and get as excited as I do to learn about them. I studied mammalogy as part of my bachelors and I think mongooses are extremely endearing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
