Class Experience

Students will improve their understanding of the Greek gods and goddesses, the origin stories and how they have influenced culture today.
I taught a Greek Mythology course in a fifth grade private school for ten years. I love how the children were fascinated with the topic and could relate the themes to their own lives. I also believe that classical literature and mythology are the basis for a lot of our modern day stories, games and art. It is fun to help students make those connections!
Students will be encouraged to look out for references and images that symbolize or represent the Greek god or goddess in their everyday life. I will send a self-paced version of the lesson after class for extra practice, reading and review. Also for any student that misses a day!
I will be basing the course on the D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths. This book is available digitally, on Amazon, and at bookstores. It is NOT required that the student have the book, but would be a great resource for the child to have!
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will participate in a quiz game at the end of class to assess their comprehension. They will also create a hands on activity with guidelines.
5 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
