Description
Class Experience
In this class, we will explore the amazing world of bees! Young learners will learn about the parts of a bee, where bees live, the vital role bees play in our ecosystems and agriculture, and how they can help bees. Learners will feel empowered to take action as pollinator protectors. This class is designed to meet Next Generation Science standards, the Common Core, and many state standards. Designed by a certified teacher, this lesson incorporates cross-curricular topics from math, science,...
Students will understand the characteristics of bees and identify their parts. Students will explore the importance of bees and the steps of pollination. Students will utilize age-appropriate math skills to solve science-related math problems.
My work with bees and other organisms began as a child. Since then my passion for pollinators has led me to teach environmental science as a public school teacher, and to homeschool organizations. I have also had the privilege of working with many community organizations including the Girl Scouts, YMCA's, STEAM clubs, and more. As a beekeeper I enjoy sharing my knowledge of Earth's precious pollinators with learners of all ages.
There is no homework. Learners will receive follow-up activities that they can enjoy. These materials include a bee identification journal (for nature walks), and instructions to make a bee house out of recyclable materials.
Learners will need something to write with and a surface to write on. This can be pencil and paper or a dry erase board and pen.
Learners will be assessed based on their contributions to class discussions.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
