We will learn about the geography of Ancient Greece; how is Ancient Greece different than modern times. Learn why Ancient Greece is considered the country where democracy began. The students will have an introduction to types of governments. We will cover taxes, The Assembly, and juries. During our study on Athens, students will learn what life was like for the women, men, and children during this time. We will further study Sparta and the lives of the Spartan people. Learn how Ancient Athens was different than Ancient Sparta. Having a background as a special education teacher and an English as a 2nd language teacher, I have a unique ability to provide a diverse education in a group setting. I am a patient, kind, and a knowledgeable teacher who is ready to share her passion for history with others. Students will have discussion with the teacher and their peers. We will read, learn vocabulary, and give our opinions. Lesson 1: Introducing Ancient Greece Geography: Where is Ancient Greece on the map, learn vocabulary words; citizens, democracy, city-states, coast, Asia Minor, Assembly, generals, and juries in relation to Ancient Greece. How did Ancient Greece play an influence on the Western world. Also we will play a game! Use Google Earth. Lesson 2: Why is Athens considered the place where democracy began? Look at art forms and architecture that are similar to Ancient Greece in modern times. Students will learn what was it like to live in Athens, why were foreigners going to Athens, and what types of jobs did people have? Play a game! Lesson 3: Life in Ancient Sparta; What was life like in ancient Sparta? Geography of Sparta, Learn about the relationship between Athens and Sparta. What is the government of Sparta like? How is the government different than that of Athens? Learn Watch a short video clip.
