Class Experience
NOTE: I also offer this class for ages 5-8 and 13-18. Please see my profile for these class listings. In this fast-paced, interactive class, we will look at pictures of axolotls while discussing their characteristics including habitat, adorable looks, regenerative properties, and other facts about this unusual animal. We will briefly discuss their presence in Minecraft. Through learning about this animal, we will define characteristics of amphibians and clear up misconceptions we discover....
Students will learn characteristics of axolotls. Students will participate in a directed discussion about axolotls. Students will display what they learned in a game of Kahoot!
I've been studying science all my life. My father was a renowned herpetologist. As such, I grew up surrounded by animals, plants, and other life forms. I followed my interests in college by studying biology as well as education. I taught middle school science for 21 years, then worked as the middle school science education specialist for the State Department of Education in Alabama for 6 years. In retirement, I am still actively involved in many scientific communities, and stay engaged with groups such as the North American Association for Environmental Education and the National Science Teachers Association. I am passionate and knowledgeable about the study of life, and about passing on this passion to youngsters.
