This is a Greek mythology class designed to boost knowledge about the god Poseidon, and analyse his role and position in the Greek pantheon. We will look at art to find out about his appearance and attributes through time, and we will also read authentic ancient literary texts that give us a window to his behaviour. After learning about the mythical creatures related to him and his main areas of influence, we will look at the role of Poseidon in later art and literature. For example, we will discuss the adaptation of Poseidon that appears in the Percy Jackson series and other popular contemporary works. Finally, students will have a choice to create their own artistic version of Poseidon and share it with the rest of the class. After the session students will be sent a fact-file and tips to continue learning about this fascinating god.

Parental Guidance
Greek myths contain elements of violence and social behaviours that are far removed from our current moral and legal expectations. Students will have a chance to reflect on this and appreciate the changes of attitude that have taken place over time.
